Red Carpet Fashion

The Fashion elite of the world gathered in London last night to recognize individuals who have made an impact in the fashion industry this year.

Of course, the red carpet was glorious with appearances from top models Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn, Joan Smalls, Gigi Hadid and many more celebrities.

Let’s take a look at the red carpet photos from the award ceremony;

Jourdan Dunn in a crop top and trousers at the British Fashion Awards
Daisy Lowe's pink jumpsuit was less successful

Jenna Coleman looked pretty in Erdem

Salma Hayek's dress screamed 'flamenco', not fashon

Alexa Chung wore a pyjama style suit

Alexa Chung’s chosen outfit confirmed that luxe pyjamas are the new party dress.

Her quirky choice for the BFAs wasn’t one of her red carpet classics, but when you’re a style icon you can wear anything – including marabou-trimmed Prada PJs.

Nicole Scherzinger's Julian McDonald catsuit left nothing to the imagination

Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger appeared determined not to be outshone by the many supermodels in attendance at the Royal Albert Hall.

But she could have chosen something classier than her barely there Julian McDonald jumpsuit – complete with cape – that exposed far too much.

Which is your best dressed?

In an ambience of fun and great expectation, several delegates and movie enthusiasts stormed Filmhouse-IMAX last Friday for ’76, the closing night film of this year’s edition of the prestigious Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).

The IMAX hall, venue of the screening of ‘76, directed by Izu Ojukwu, was filled to the brim.

The anticipated movie is centered on the first Nigerian Military coup and subsequent assassination of former Head of State, General Murtala Mohammedin 1976. Starring Ramsey Nouah, Rita Dominic and Chidi Mokeme among others, the abortive coup also witnessed the assassination of key plotters, including its mastermind, BS Dimka.

“76 evoked nostalgia and a sense of familiar history in the minds of the audience, as the movie producers tell a story, using the right props, outfits, currencies, automobiles, household items and soundtracks that depict the aura of yesteryear.

Speaking at the event, Izu Ojukwu said of the props: “We had to search for them for about two years. This project started in 2009. Some of these things were gathered in 2012. By the time we were ready to shoot, the owners had taken them away. So we had to start looking for fresh vintage vehicles and then refurbishing, so it took quite a while.”

The movie, he said, was done to celebrate history. “We realize that we have little respect for history, so we decided to weave a romantic story around an ugly event. If you notice, we decided to play down the assassination and the execution scene. It was a deliberate attempt not to celebrate one of the darkest moments in our history.”

Founder and Executive Director of AFRIFF, Chioma Ude expressed satisfaction at the turn out of events at this year’s festival, which featured movie screenings and topical industry sessions, provoking discourse on a number of issues while also providing networking opportunities for participants drawn from all over Africa.

“There are lots of new elements we have put into what we are doing. There are lots of added interests in what we are doing. So it has been a very exciting journey. Of course, it is very gruelling putting things together in terms of logistics. We see it and nobody else sees it,” Chioma Ude said.

According to her, the core of the festival is training. “People don’t know too much what the benefits of festivals are. So we’ve been spending five years teaching. We’ve left things for free, now we’ve opened them up because now we know the plethora of knowledge that comes into the festival,” she added.

Here we have Nigerian singer and actress Tiwa Savage as well as actresses Rachel McAdams and Teyonnah Parris battle it out for your pick in a Self Portrait “Ayelette cut-out double crepe” dress.

See how they rocked it.

In July 2015, “Mean Girls” star Rachel McAdams selected the resort dress in black for the Southpaw New York Premiere.

She styled it with diamond butterfly-shaped earrings, a selection of diamond bracelets and rings, and a pair of black ankle-strap heels.

Her wavy bob, choice of pink lipstick, and placing the straps off-shoulder, completed the look.

A year later, BN Style spotted actress Teyonnah Parris also in the same piece but in red, at the American Black Film Festival.

Teyonnah styled it with silver drop earrings, silver bracelets, a black clutch and black pumps.

In the beauty department, she chose long braids, smokey eyes and dark red lipstick

Just a few days ago, Mavin Records star Tiwa Savage was seen rocking the Ayelette dress in red in Durban, SA.

The style star accessorized the frock with a gold bracelet, a black clutch, and a pair of black ankle-strap heels.

Her long locks and luscious pout finished the look.

The grand event saw many of our favorite celebrities as well as other people from all walks of life in some very beautiful attires and we just couldn’t take our eyes off them.

The ELOY awards 2015 took place last night at the Red carpet event center and it was truly a spectacular night to celebrate women who blaze the trail in Nigeria.

The grand event saw many of our favorite celebrities as well as other people from all walks of life in some very beautiful attires and we just couldn’t take our eyes off them. So we decided to put together five of our favorite looks of the night:

  • Tomi Odunsi: The tinsel actress was a vision in white by the fashion amazon, Ejiro Amos Tafiri.

  • Osas Ajibade: Not only did she win brand ambassador award, she won on the red carpet in her beautiful Moofa gown.

  • Bolanle Olukanni: The star OAP may not have won an award last night but she definitely slayed our hearts in an Elvira Jude number.

  • Toju Foyeh: The fashion designer of the year award winner looked yummy in a black and white dress by herself, of course.

  • Elma Godwin: The OAP who just turned 25, turned heads on the red carpet in a DZYN number and let’s not forget that white and black hairdo…fire!

  • Honorary mention (Linda Osifo & Adesua Etomi): Although they didn;t make our overall list, they definitely killed it on the red carpet and in dresses by Mai Atafo.

From stage performances and sizzling energy to sexy suits and plunging necklines, this year’s anniversary of American Music Awards was mind blowing. It is popular knowledge that the AMA’s are as much for the eye-popping red carpet fashion as they are for the heart-warming music.

Thousands of stars graced the American Music Awards 2015 red carpet, with the likes of Taylor Swift, Sam Hunt, Nicki Minaj, The Weekend, Enrique Iglesias, Casting Crowns, One Direction and others bagging music awards. The music awards may not have been for everybody, but the fashion awards certainly were. There were style trends, colour trends,  faux pas, worst dressed and best dressed.

Style Trends:

This years AMA’s saw a lot of our female celebrities baring loads of skin in floor length gowns. The perfect hairdo for this style trend also seemed to be do-up buns. Christina Milian, Jennifer Lopez and Karrueche Tran sported the do-up bun and revealing yet flattering, floor length gowns designed by LaQuan SmithCharbel Zoe and Yousef Al-Jasmi, respectively.FULLY REVEALING FULL LENGTH GOWNS_AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS2015_COMPLETE FASHION

Another trend on the red carpet was beaded gowns, sported by Ciara, Selena Gomez and others. Demi Lovato‘s gown was designed by  Lorena Sarbu while Ciara and Carrie Underwood’s outfits were designed by Reem Acra and Elie Madi, respectively.

BEADED GOWNS_AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2015_COMPLETE FASHION

Colour Trends:

The colour, black, went viral at the AMA’s 2015. Admittedly, the AMA’s are always a lot more casual than the Oscars or Emmys but this year, black brought sophistication along. Meghan Trainor wore Michael Costello, a black demure , floor length gown with high shoulders and a nice fit.  Leon Bridges, a gospel musician wore a black, perfectly tailored suit. Black and simple. Our ‘Empire’ sweetheart, Serayah Mcneill wore a black Vera Wang dress that fit like a second skin to the AMA’s.

COLOUR TRENDS_AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2015_COMPLETE FASHION

Faux pas:

As is normal with every high profile event, there were a few embarassing style choices and matches. Nash Grier and Rebecca Black, two social media personalities, had quite an issue with matching out their outfits. Rebecca of ‘Friday’ paired a beautiful jumpsuit with a fully beaded shirt and strappy buckle heels… big mistake. Nash Grier’s attempt to look cool and suave by matching a leather jacket with a full floral print shirt, black trousers and black shoes was a huge miss. ‘If I was a Rich Girl’ star, Gwen Stefani, wore a black, detailed dress that is really quite hard to describe. See below:

FAUX PAS_AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2015_COMPLETE FASHION

Worst Dressed:

Z Lala, Sabrina Carpenter and Harry Styles were definitely worst dressed at the AMA’s. Sabrina wore an underwhelming black and white print dress with frilled shoulder puffs and matched this inappropriate dress with lavender heels and shoes. Harry of One Direction looked weird beside his group members in a full floral frint suit, with wide pant legs. If we had any complaints whatsoever about these two though, Z Lala certainly took the cake with her octopus dress and talon-like fingernails!

WORST DRESSED_AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS2015_COMPLETE FASHION

Best Dressed:

For American Music Awards 43rd anniversary, it wasn’t difficult to choose our best dressed. Selena Gomez looked amazing in a red, sequined, slingy halter dress designed by Givenchy. Carrie Underwood looked like a goddess in a beaded and caped dress designed by Elie Madi. Wiz Khalifa brought his A-game to the show with a tailored, navy, velvet jacket and black, ankle-grazing slacks layered with a crisp white button up shirt all from Giorgio Armani. Nick Jonas took a cue from Drake’s fashion with his turtle neck shirt coupled with a crisp suit that complemented his build. Zendaya went all pink in lace shirt and skirt designed by Emanuel Ungaro with pointed-toe pumps. Gigi Hadid was resplendent in an all white outfit featuring a crop top and a maxi skirt designed by Bao Tranchi, her hair, short and beautifully styled.   Sam Hunt looked wonderful in a fitted grey suit and Demi Lovato wore an old- Hollywood inspired outfit with her black and gold sequined dress designed by Lorena Sarbu and retro-style hair and makeup.
