Many were surprised when newly wedded Gbenro Ajibade appeared on his wedding day without his signature look.

Gbenro who started out as a model before switching to acting had had his dreads on for almost 10 years and he had come to be identified with it.

After Gbenro met Osas Ighodaro and considered settling down people never believed him even when they got engaged and went ahead to have their traditional wedding, many still did not attached seriousness to Gbenro.

When Gbenro stepped out on his wedding day without his traditional dreads looking clean and neat a lot who have cast aspersion on their wedding with his look had a change of mind.

“It was a long and hard decision because the dreadlocks have become part of his identity and he has grown so fond of the hairstyle and the look it gave him but he had to let it go few days before the wedding. Of course, he still had his locks on for his traditional wedding but he only shaved it off days before his wedding and a new beginning”

Another set of people said Gbenro had to shave off his dread because Osas asked for it and for the love they shared between them; Gbenro gave her the honour on their wedding day.

But for Gbenro it was a personal decision he made to start life afresh with the love of his life. For him the dreadlocks is a thing of the past and he is starting life on a new note with Osas.
Sharing his new look, Gbenro looking at his reflection in the mirror said: “New Phase. Thank you all.”

We surely love this lady’s sense of dressing. Toke Makinwa is none that needs any fashion lectures from anyone or at least from less fashionable ones. She is so looking chic in a Lady Biba jumpsuit. The cape detailed coral jumpsuit featuring wide legs is styled with a statement brooch.

She pairs the look with gold peep toe heels and a purse. She let her hair down with flawless makeup and chestnut lips.

Isn’t this lady just too beautiful?

After his showcase at Pitti Immagine‘s “Constellation Africa“ and representing Nigerian yesterday at the Men’s Fashion Week South Africa, we are excited to see what Nigerian menswear label, Orange Culture will come up with next.

The latest collection for the brand is one with an inspiring and personal touch, etched on the emotional and symbiotic relationship between a fisher man and his canoe. The designer took a childhood memory and pressing desire to learn more, and combined it with his ability to translate stories and journeys of even the most obscure of professions, through clothes.

According to Adebayo Oke-Lawal: “Growing up in the metropolitan city of Lagos that was constantly nestled in chaos, vitality and a spiral of fleeting hopes, it was almost impossible to catch a moment beautified by its silence alone. Everyone always seemed in a hurry to somewhere, for something. But I remember driving past Third Mainland Bridge often with my family, my head pressed against the cold glass alive with dew from the AC, staring out into the sea as fishermen rowed their canoes alone at even the loneliest of hours.

The solemnity of that still beauty rattled me. The elegance of their arm strides saturated in the euphoric concept of gracefulness carried around by people who knew what belonged to them would surely come to them. It stirred something inside of me. I wondered what they were thinking while they stood, legs muscled and firm on the wood, waiting for their capture, or as their lips cracked as they sighted something I couldn’t see. The universe came to them in those moments, and on descending the bridge, I constantly felt robbed of an indefinable beauty.”

The pieces are a blend of the rawness in the journey of fishermen in Lagos through cubic paintings of a Lagos fisherman rowing his canoe under the Third Mainland Bridge as the sun sets. The shoes were inspired by their slip-ons, and the bags designed in collaboration with Nigerian brand O’eclat and the Treefairfax brand.

Multi-talented artiste, John Agoha, is a singer, song writer, model and fashion consultant. In this interview with Victor Udoh, he speaks about his new video, ‘Chokomilo’, where he featured Dammy Krane. He also talks about his dress sense. Excerpts:

What is behind your style of dressing?

I dress this way because I want to look different; I like to look unique from every other person. I believe my style is always unique and on point.

What is your understanding of fashion?

I think fashion is a gift from God; it is not something you buy from the market. And you need to start from kindergarten to learn how to dress and also carry yourself.

I am happy that a lot of Nigerians don’t toy anymore with their dressing. It is a plus for our fashion industry and shows we are improving. Also, fashion is a must because you must look good in order to attract good people. Looking good is good business.

        What is your style signature?

I love white and blue, and a touch of black.

Do you get angry over any type of dressing you don’t like?

Yes, especially when a public personality wears something I don’t like. They should be a role model. People should go to the internet and research what is in vogue and trendy. Take Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) for instance, I love the way he dresses. He is always impeccably dressed.

What fashion item forms the larger part of your wardrobe?

I love casuals a lot, followed by a bit of corporate wears. However, I love shoes a lot and have over 120 pairs. Though I don’t tell people this, I have pairs of shoes I bought over three years ago that I am yet to wear.

Who is your fashion role model?

Funnily enough, my role model in terms of fashion is not a celebrity as such. He is a pastor and has 620 pairs of shoes in his wardrobe. I won’t mention his name; he is my good friend.

What fashion item can’t you be caught in?

I can never be caught in ‘busy on busy’ because it is wrong. Even when I am at home, anything I wear must complement the other. If I should wear black palm sandals, I must wear a black belt or shirt to complement it.

        What do you do?

I am a singer cum song writer, model and fashion consultant. For now, I consult for two banks. I consult for them in terms of how they can look good. I really love fashion a lot.

What is your philosophy of life?

I want to be happy and to be loved by people. I also want to meet personalities and get them to know about me too.

What project do you have at hand at present?

I just shot a new video titled ‘Chokomilo’. It features Dammy Krane and was directed by one of Nigeria’s finest, Mattmax. The song is all about love, and it is produced by TBO. The video will be released today. I see it as a huge privilege to feature one of the best artistes in Nigeria. For me, it is great one.

        How was your growing up?

It was boring because my mother wanted me to be a pastor and never allowed me to associate with other kids. She always kept me indoors. She was quite strict with my upbringing and watched me closely.

It was a triangular movement of going to church from home, then assist at her restaurant. Growing up for me was very boring, but now I am very free. Sometimes my friends would say I groove a lot, but I tell them that I didn’t have the opportunity to do so when I was small.

What is the greatest embarrassment you have encountered?

The greatest embarrassment of my life was when I performed at A.Y Live three years ago. The clothes I donned there, made by my designer, was nonsense. I was uncomfortable in it, and a lot people that came observed that what I wore was not good enough for my brand. I felt very bad performing on stage as a result.

What’s your advice for upcoming artistes?

They should stay focused and committed to their dream; do good music, believe in themselves. They should also talk less, work more and be the best they can, and above all, respect God.
