Tell me about yourself?
I’m a blogger, fashion enthusiast, model, and style consultant. Since I was young, fashion had always been my thing. I was able to develop myself well in my University days. I’ve always had the belief that style is an art. I loved the idea of matching colours in a creative way and being the daughter of an artist I guess it was always in me. I run a fashion and style blog- stylewithnini1.blogspot.com.
As a fashion and style blogger, what inspires you most?
I am inspired by the need to get people to understand that style is a totality of who one is, not what you copy, or borrow. It’s what you make with the outfits you wear everyday based on your style conviction.
Can you describe your style?
My style is simple, modest yet classic. I’ve never been a fan of showing one’s skin to drive home a style, I guess I’ve never been really comfortable with that. I don’t look at clothing the same way. How well you are able to get the best out of what you wear say a lot about your style and how well you allow your body marry your outfit is a whole new level. This is where understanding your body type and shape come into play.
What challenging experiences have you had blogging about fashion and style?
Having to combine my regular work and keeping up with happenings in the fashion world, coping with the fickle nature of the industry, the pressures of blogging and doing my regular work hasn’t been easy but when you love what you do it becomes much more easy to handle. Sometimes I keep late nights to do extra work but in the long run it has been extremely worth the effort.
How would you describe the fashion industry in Nigeria?
Fashion industry in Nigeria has been growing incredibly these past few years. A lot of people are really appreciating and embracing fashion, this is something very encouraging and reassuring for the industry, especially for those looking to invest and associate with the industry. A lot of countries now recognise Nigerian fashion, our fashionistas are respected and I must tell you that is something to be proud of.
What impact do you think social media has on fashion and style?
Hmmm… the social media is one of the best things that have happened to fashion and style. A lot of people are now able to take advantage of the platform to announce to the world who they are and what they stand for. Small, medium and mega fashion stores are able to reach millions of people creating avenue for growth, idea sharing and inspiration. It has been one joyous ride that is never slowing down. The impact has been wonderful I must say.
How do you keep up with fashion trends?
I’ve always been a fashionable person, so keeping up with trends in the fashion world comes naturally. The internet and social media have been my number one source of fashion updates. But the real catch is to be passionate about fashion and style and you will subconsciously keep up with the trends.
Which designers do you wear most?
I like good fashion, any designer that gives me this has my vote any day… but I particularly like Gucci, Mango, Hugo boss, Karen Milen and Christian Louboutin. I also love good fashion designers in Nigeria like House of Julyet Peters and Nuraniyastudios. For my hair, I love Hairglamour Int’l and hairdo by Sarisignature.
What are your ambitions?
I want to become a well-known style consultant, model and style ambassador and of course to be one of the best fashion and style bloggers around.
What places do you go to get the latest fashion news?
I have quite a number of places I go to for latest news and gists, but some of my favourite has to be Genevieve magazine, Bella Naija and also you will be amazed at how many style magazines I read when I visit the salon.
.
You have 16k followers on Instagram how did you manage that?
I wouldn’t say it’s something that happened overnight but I guess my consistence and passion for looking good and fashion paid off overtime. I have unbelievable followers who really appreciate my daily posts; I love them because they inspire me. Also, their comments and words of encouragement have been awesome. This is the kind of spice needed to keep me going.
Give us an insight into a busy day in the life of a fashion and style blogger?
I wake early and I have to almost hit the ground running immediately. It’s always fun, I could be visiting my fashion designers for new dresses, fashion stores for new arrivals, attending fashion events, travelling, modelling for stores, sometimes even consulting on the go and coming back home to draft posts for my blog. It can be quite busy for me on most days but the thing is when you love what you do it ceases to be work but fun. My days can be very busy but I always find a way to make it fun.
