Fayrouz L’Original Finalists Light up Tinapa Resort
Within a few minutes, the runway became a kaleidoscope of camera, lights and action, reports Vanessa Obioha, who was at the Tinapa Resort, Calabar for the semi-final of the Fayrouz L’Original Expression Show
Eco fashion is not a staple on the Nigerian runway but that was exactly the task given to the semi-finalists of the Fayrouz L’Original Expression Show. The contestants were tasked to incorporate Fayrouz elements in their pieces.
The keenly-contested fashion show saw the six semi-finalists: team Hai, Scog, FIB, Ombre, Paisley and Meddlelane battling for a slot in the finals. Fayrouz crowns, cans and bottles filled the runway as these teams fought to express themselves in unique creative designs. From crop tops to high slit gowns, the models strutted across the runway flying the Fayrouz colours. However, only two finalists sailed through to the final stage.
It was no mean feat that team Hai and team Meddlelane clinched the coveted slots. They were among the sea of youngsters that thronged the different regions where auditions for the fashion show held. Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Lagos recorded a large number of youths who came to display their skills in fashion design, make-up, photography and modelling.
The Fayrouz L’Original Expression Show is designed to give young undergraduates and fresh graduates with unique creative abilities a platform to showcase their original works for a chance to win amazing prizes and opportunities. Each team was made up of a model, photographer, fashion designer and make-up artiste.
They were required to put together original ensembles. About 453 youths applied and 134 auditioned for this year’s edition in the various regions.
According to the Senior Brand Manager Fayrouz, Nnenna Ifebigh-hemeson, “The Fayrouz L’Original Expression show is all about rewarding creative young adults. We understand that our youths have amazing talents in the creative industry and choosing fashion and style, we want to encourage these youths to express themselves in all originality and creativity.”
