Glo Sponsors Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2015
As part of its commitment to the promotion of African values and heritage, Nigeria’s National Telecoms Carrier, Globacom, has thrown its weight behind the second edition of African Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN) as sponsor.
The event is scheduled to hold in Lagos between May 23 and 24 at the Oceanview Marquee and the Convention Centre of Eko Hotel and Suites.
It would be a platform for promotion of made-in-Nigeria designs and will also create visibility and awareness for indigenous designers.
The organisers say the event will generally provide a forum for promoting the work of African and African-inspired designers and fine artists globally.
In a joint press statement on Sunday in Lagos, Globacom and AFWN noted that the sponsorship of the second edition of AFWN by Globacom further demonstrated the company’s commitment to the promotion and sustenance of African arts and culture.
“Globacom identifies with the objective of the organisers to promote emerging Nigerian designers, within and outside the shores of the country. We will continue to be associated with the development of Nigeria and Africa’s rich culture and its works of art,” the statement added.
Globacom says it sees the African Fashion Week Nigeria as an opportunity to showcase Africa’s rich cultural heritage and Nigeria’s fast rising fashion industry. The company called on Nigeria’s fashion connoisseurs and others who wish to be abreast of fashion trends in the country to make out time to be at the venue of the event to experience the best of Nigerian designs on the runway.
The organisers of the show said the African Fashion Week Nigeria is a new initiative to support, showcase and promote Nigeria’s most innovative fashion talents in a bid to move Nigerian fashion forward through the development of fashion businesses. AFWN posits that the shows will enhance the reputation of Nigeria’s rising stars in the fashion industry and will be as significant as Africa Fashion Week London.
They said a series of activities and performances have been lined up to make the 2015 African Fashion Week Nigeria an exciting and memorable event with over 100 top designers from the continent and beyond expected to showcase their designs and products during the show.
