Vistaprint has been around for 20 years, so if you live in the U.S. or Europe, ordering printed material online might not seem like a big deal. In Nigeria, however, getting business card and flyers are still a pain that requires multiple visits to a brick-and-mortar shop, says Printivofounder Oluyomi Ojo.

Ojo has family members who work in the printing industry, but he didn’t realize how complicated it is to handle orders until he became a managing director at an ad agency, especially for customers outside of Lagos, one of Nigeria’s printing hubs.

“Small businesses are not really catered to. If you want to print a quantity as low as 100 business cards, you might have to travel two hours to a print shop, sit down and have someone design them, then come back in a week and pick them up,” says Ojo.

“We saw there are a lot of problems for small-scale businesses that want to order print marketing. It’s a huge opportunity for us because there are more than 17 million small businesses in Nigeria alone.”

Printivo printing facilityFounded in 2013 by Ojo, Ibukun Oloyede, and Ayodeji Adeogun, Printivo ships express orders throughout Nigeria and will expand to other English-speaking African countries after landing seed funding from EchoVC Partners earlier this month. In addition to business cards, flyers, and stationery, Printivo also produces tote bags, mugs, and wedding favors.

There are other online print businesses in Nigeria, including PrintSharply and InstantPrint, but Ojo says Printivo differentiates by offering a larger selection of products and templates created by its full-time graphic designers (customers can also upload their own designs to the site). Ojo claims that Printivo’s tech platform lets users create and order printed goods in as little as 10 to 15 minutes.

“It takes away the weeks and days of calling and finding graphic designers and printers,” he says. Shipments within Lagos usually take two to three days, while orders reach the rest of Nigeria in about five days.

Along with launching in new markets, Printivo will expand its business model by launching an online marketplace for graphic designers, as well as a service similar to CafePress that will handle orders for companies that want to sell custom goods. The startup also has a B2B segment, focusing on larger companies; Ojo says clients so far have included Google, DHL, and telecom Etisalat.

While Nigeria’s Internet penetration rate is one of the highest in Africa (and still growing rapidly), Ojo is not worried that companies will begin rejecting printed products in favor of online marketing campaigns.

“Print gives you a level of tangibility that online cannot give,” says Ojo. “People get to feel and touch your materials and that really drives growth here.”

The Citi FM Expressions of Accra came off last Saturday at the plush Alisa Hotels. The event featured seven of Ghana’s most creative fashion brands and was attended by the crème-de-la-crème of Ghana’s fashion lovers.

Expressions of Accra 2015 was themed Fast and Furious and had Horseman Shoes, Sarah Christian, MAKSI Clothing, Naa Lamiley Kouture, Trap Shoes, MSimps and Chapter One Classics showing brilliant designs made from GTP fabrics.

Sarah Christian was the first to hit the runway. True to the theme for the night, ‪#‎FastAndFurious, Sarah Christian broke onto the runway with models decked in tulle, motorcycle helmets, capes and dark make up. Her designs were accentuated with chunky, jagged, black foam cut to resemble icicles or arrow heads. Her line got the event started on a high and kept patrons asking for more.

Mabel Simpson, MSimps, also won the hearts of patrons with her set, which eventually ended the show. The Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie has praised Msimps for the unique designs exhibited at Citi FM’s Expressions of Accra last Saturday.

She wrote on her Facebook Wall: “Mabel Simpson Msimps you raised the bar! Msimps at the Citi FM’s Expression of Accra.” Msimps displayed wide range of fashion accessories including handbags, laptop bags, shoes and other accessories with African print.

See photos from the event below….

Naa Lamiley Kouture’s approach was to keep it simple, yet sophisticated enough for the upwardly mobile person who needs a resourceful wardrobe. Her collection had clothes you can wear anywhere and not be over-dressed or be made to feel inadequate. The young designer deservedly won the admiration of patrons.

The presence of Maksi Clothing on the runway was characterized by a breezy, floaty, dancing on air kind of feel. The talented sister duo nailed it with a collection that guaranteed picture-perfect sways with flowing, floor-length garments in billowy fabric. The male models carried jute bags to complete the look.

Chapter One put out creative, stylish and edgy designs on the runway. For fashionistas who wished to see something that pushed the limits and test the willingness to dare to be different, Chapter One was the brand of choice. He sent out garments with a unique mix of wax print, patterned knits, mesh, jersey and denim with an Anas-tinged vibe. Those were styles one expects to see on fall runways in London, Paris or Milan.

Horseman Shoes’ designs were brilliant and classy. Horseman Shoes once again showed that they are peerless in thatMARKET space with well designed and crafted hand-made shoes that would rival any other world class shoe brand. The shoes made with leather and GTP fabric represented the true unrivalled Ghanaian excellence made with the craftsmanship of a passionate team.

TRAP Shoes looked very comfortable. Their sandals and slippers are the types that are made with the environment and future generations in mind. They are made with renewable materials and crafted to meet the world highest standard of quality and class. Together with Horseman Shoes, TRAP Shoes gave patrons a reason to give their feet a treat.

The Expressions of Accra: Fast and Furious saw Okyeame Kwame, Dark Suburb and Wiyaala entertaining guests with beautiful music.

Comedian DKB affirmed his position as the true king of Ghanaian comedy after treating the audience to back-to-back comedy session.]

Expressions of Accra, Accra’s Fashion Experience, was powered by 97.3 Citi FM and GTP and sponsored by MenzBanc and Kupenda Condoms with support from 2nd Image Beauty Academy and Black Secret.
