Let’s start with the truth: nobody has perfect eyebrows. They require your occasional attention and treatment. Also, your eyebrows should complement the features of your face. If you treat and shape them right, they will make your eyes look bigger, wider and brighter and slim the face. But shaping your eyebrows wrong can make you appear older and unapproachable.

You can surely visit beauty salons and let the professionals do their job, but how about getting some experience which will help you to create the desirable shape by yourself?
Shaping your eyebrows is a significant part in framing the whole face. You can’t just duplicate another person’s look; the right eyebrow shape for you depends on your facial structure alone. Here are the most interesting and simple ways to define the shape of your eyebrows, apply the mascara and achieve an awesome look.

Getting the right shape of your eyebrows is a long process. Start with defining the shape according to your face. The red lines in the picture show where to define the angles, the beginning and the end of you brows. For more details follow the next step-by-step tutorial.

1) Brush your eyebrows. You should always pay attention to their natural growth direction!
2) Take a pencil and hold it vertically from the nostril to the inner corner of the eyebrow.
3) Define the right length of your brows by placing a pencil diagonally from the base of the nose to the outer corner of your eye. The brow should end where the pencil and your brow meet.
4) Define the right place for the arch (the peak of your brow). Here you need to hold the pencil vertically from the outer iris. Now you can remove some hair from underneath to enhance the arch.

Makeup has become quite complicated today. With all the new techniques and tools you need to achieve a great makeup look, it almost seems like rocket science. However, there are a few tools that you cannot forego – one of them is mascara.

This is a vital tool for makeup beginners who want to make sure they get the best look from the basic tools they have acquired. Your mascara is very much like your lipstick, or getting your eyebrows filled – you sort of can’t do without it.

This lovely beauty tool has loads of benefits – It opens up your eyes and emphasizes their shape; and if you really don’t want to put on a bunch of powders and foundations, all you have to do is swipe a few coats of mascara on your eyelashes and apply some lipstick. You’ll get the full glam look in minutes.

So what type of mascara should you get? How do you apply the mascara? Is a mascara primer necessary? How do you take it off? These are the questions we are going to be answering today!

Check it out!

What type of mascara should I get?
The key to getting the most out of a mascara is in the wand/brush. Different companies produce mascaras with different brushes and they all have different uses.

I personally like to use two or three mascaras, sometimes one after the other, because they serve different purposes. I use one for volume, usually theMaybelline Colossal Volum’ Express, followed by the Maybelline Rocket Volum’ Express for length, and then I finally comb through it all for definition with the small brush from Maybelline‘s Great Lash mascara. I also use this for my bottom lashes because of the precision it gives.

The image above shows the different mascara brushes and how they can be used. Here’s some more information about each brush:

  1. Flat Comb Wands: This mascara wand is usually flat and small and has evenly-spaced little teeth. The teeth are specially designed to define and separate the eyelashes during application. It is great for improving length, but it does not add a lot of volume.
  2. Straight Wands: This can be tilted and used at any angle to get great coverage over every single lash – even the smaller ones on the inner corners of your eyes. It works great if you have large eyes or full lashes.
  3. Curved Wands: This is great for that added eyelash curl. They bend your lashes backwards and lift them upwards to give your eyes a nice feminine look during & after application.
  4. Cone Taper Wands: This is also known as the ‘heart-shaped brush’. Tapered wands are basically the same as straight wands except they taper off to a point at the tip. You can get nice volume and length from the thick part of the brush, and you can also use the tip to pick out individual lashes for extra definition.
  5. Oversized/Spherical Wands: This wand works the same way as a regular mascara wand – it is only a lot smaller. Like a comb wand, spherical wands are great for separating and defining each lash, however you have to work in smaller sections. The smaller size means you can be accurate and pick out each individual lash, but the shape means you might transfer product onto your eyelids more often, especially if you have hooded lids.

How do I apply the mascara?
So, you’ve finally bought your mascara. Now how do you apply it. Here are some tips that have helped me out.

  1. You should apply mascara from the bottom of your lashes to the top in smooth and easy strokes. Be sure to apply your mascara in 2-3 coats. Apply the first coat, let it dry for about 3-5 minutes and then go over the lashes again with another coat.
  2. When you remove the wand from the bottle, scrape off excess in the process. This prevents clumsy excess on your lashes and your mascara from quickly finishing.
  3. During application, wiggle the wand left to right at the base of lashes. Pull the wand up and through the lashes, wiggling as you go along. The wiggling action is key because it separates lashes, and reduces the chances of clumpy lashes.
  4. Clean up messes you make with a q-tip (cotton bud). Big brushes tend to be a little clumsy, even though they give you the most coverage. So when and if you’re using a big mascara wand/brush, keep a q-tip handy for quick fixes.
  5. Don’t pump the wand in and out of the bottle. This pushes air into the tube which will make the mascara dry out faster and cause clumping and flaking. Instead, gently twist the wand back and forth or in circular motions to pick up the desired amount of product.
  6. Another tip is to use mascara after you apply your eye shadow. This is so that whatever eyeshadow falls onto your eyelashes will be covered by the mascara.
  7. If you don’t trust your self with the mess, use a business card, or any other square card, to apply the mascara. See a supporting image below:

Is Mascara Primer Necessary?
There are the ladies who like to go the extra mile and invest in a mascara primer. Although this is not for everyone, and most mascaras come with a primer in-built, here are some of the reasons why you may want to invest in a primer.

  1. They are specially formulated to ensure your mascara sticks well to your eyelashes for a long period of time. This is great if you are going for events etc where you may sweat or cry.
  2. They help prevent flaking and smudging during the course of the day.
  3. They help give you fuller looking lashes because the primer provide a great foundation to start with. Some primers and even mascaras have small fibers, which cling to the eyelashes, so when you apply them your eyelashes will look fuller.
  4. Some primers contain moisturizing and conditioning ingredients which promote the health of your lashes.

How do I take it all off?
After all is said and done, it can be a little difficult to get your mascara off after at night. This is especially hectic if it is water proof.

So, what I recommend is putting a drop of coconut oil/olive oil on a cotton pad and using that to wipe your mascara off. If you do not have coconut/olive oil nearby, make sure you wipe all the mascara off with a face wipe or a makeup remover.

Please note that using water alone is not strong enough to get rid of mascara. Using it would only get a small part of it out, and the rest of your face will get stained with mascara residue.

7 Tips To Look Prettier In Pictures: Everyone is capable of being photogenic. You just have to strike the right pose, sit under the right lighting, and make the right faces. It sounds like a lot to think about, which is why you should focus on one thing at a time. For now, here are a few tips for making faces that’ll appear pretty in photographs:

1. TURN YOUR HEAD TO THE SIDE

When you face the camera straight on, your face is going to look wide and unflattering. That’s why it’s best for you to turn your head to the side, at least slightly. You can try turning it 3/4 of the way around and then either direct your eyes toward the lens or away from it, like you don’t realize the picture is even being taken. You should also keep in mind that a person’s left side is typically considered to be their “best” side.

2. ELONGATE YOUR NECK

You don’t want your picture taken when you’re lounging around with your neck all scrunched up. Haven’t you ever been sitting like that while on your laptop, and then saw a glimpse of yourself on the screen? It’s never pretty, which is why you should elongate your neck and push your head forward during pictures. That will avoid making you look like you have a double chin.

3. KEEP YOUR CHIN DOWN

Even though you want your neck to be elongated, you should tilt your chin slightly downward. It will make you appear more photogenic than if you lifted it up in the air. Take a selfie to see for yourself!

4. PLACE YOUR TONGUE BEHIND YOUR TEETH

Don’t be afraid to smile with teeth. Sure, close lipped smiles can look sweet, but a smile with teeth makes you really look like you’re having a good time. To avoid overdoing it, you can place your tongue behind your teeth so you smile just the right amount.

5. LOOK DIRECTLY INTO THE LIGHT

When a camera with the flash on is directed at you, you should look directly into the light. It’ll stop you from looking like you have red eyes in the photograph, and it’ll also make your eyes sparkle, which can make you look even more attractive than you already are.

6. LAUGH

The best photos are the natural ones. Try asking a friend or family member to take pictures of you while you’re in the middle of a conversation, when you’re just laughing or listening to a story. If you’re forcing yourself to look happy, your eyes can look squinty and your smile can look fake. But when you’re laughing, your genuine happiness will transfer to the photograph. You could even try taking a video of yourself with your phone instead. That way, you can pause it on a certain frame and then take a screenshot of yourself when you’re in a flattering position.

7. EXAMINE YOUR OLD PHOTOS

Everyone looks good in different positions, which is why your best bet is to flip through your photo albums. Find the pictures that you think you look the best in and then compare them. Are you making the same face in all of them? If so, then that’s the face you should continue to make in the future.

The more pictures you take, the more chances you’ll have to figure out what faces make you look the most appealing. Do you usually make a straight face, smile, or make a duck face during photographs?

I know how rushed mornings can be, but there are some habits you should be including in your routine. They are proven ways to help you look and feel your best, no matter what’s on the agenda for the day. The good news is that once you get into the habit, these things are easy and fast to get done and you can reap the rewards all day long. Starting tomorrow, include these beauty habits for the best looking you possible.

1. EAT PROTEIN FOR BREAKFAST IN THE FORM OF EGGS OR YOGURT

Research shows that ladies who dine on a protein-packed breakfast made better choices later in the day. Not only does this help keep your weight down, but it also translates into healthier glowing skin. More research shows that eggs are one of the best choices you can make when it comes to protein. Greek yogurt is another great choice.

2. YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BE WEARING SUNSCREEN, RIGHT?

It goes without saying that you should wear SPF every single day. It protects your skin from the signs of aging and prevents skin cancer. Not only should you apply it before you apply your make-up, but you should also reapply every couple of hours, especially if you plan to spend the time outdoors.

3. START WEARING AN ANTIOXIDANT SERUM AS PART OF YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE

This little tidbit of advice is one you’ll thank me for as you get older. You might not notice the results instantly, but you will definitely notice them as time goes by. Antioxidants fight free radical damage, which alters your skin and can lead to cancer, lines, wrinkles and age spots. Simply apply it every morning and you’ll retain your youthful beauty in the years to come.

4. MOVE YOUR WORKOUT TO THE MORNING INSTEAD OF AFTER WORK

Exercise boosts circulation, controls weight and fights health issues, all of which translate to a gorgeous body and healthy skin. If you tend to skip it because you’re just too tired at the end of the day, move your session to the morning hours instead. You’ll start the day with a healthy glow and you’ll have the evening free to relax.

5. HAVE A GLASS OF WATER WHILE YOU GET READY TO GO

Dehydration occurs when you go several hours without water. When you sleep for the recommended 7 to 9 hours (you do, right?), you wind up going without for quite a while. Starting your day with a glass of water instantly hydrates your body, which makes your skin firm and toned as well as reducing crankiness. Sounds easy enough, right?

6. MIST YOUR FACE WITH CHILLED WATER FIRST THING

If you wake up with puffy circles under your eyes or just overall dullness on your face, a simple spray bottle with water can be a lifesaver. Keep it in the fridge because the chilly temp helps combat puffiness and wakes up your face so you look healthier and fresher from the get go. As a bonus – if you have trouble waking up, this will certainly do the trick.

7. HAVE A BOOST OF CAFFEINE FROM GREEN TEA INSTEAD OF COFFEE

I’m a morning tea drinker, but if you aren’t this might take a bit of getting used to. Caffeine is actually beneficial to your skin because it perks it up. However, green tea is a very concentrated source of antioxidants, which helps slow cell damage and leave you looking young all the time. If you must have coffee, drink it after you down the green tea.

Who knew mornings could make you so beautiful? Which of these ideas are you going to try tomorrow?

There’s something really luxurious about having your makeup done by someone else, but if you’re budget is anything like mine, it just doesn’t work out very often. That’s why you need to learn to do classic beauty treatments yourself. You can get it done without having to spend all the cash. SavingMONEYand looking fabulous? I’m on board with that. Here are some of the beauty treatments you should know how to do. Hey, maybe you can even charge your friends once you know what you’re doing.

1. LEARN TO TRIM YOUR OWN BROWS – IT’S NOT HARD

PHOTO VIA DATA.WHICOM

This is something else I’ve learned to do so that I don’t have to PAY someone all the time. Using a combination of tweezers and a battery operated trimmer, I can get rid of strays and long, loose brow hairs with ease. You’ll want a bright light and a close mirror, but I guarantee you can do this!

2. GIVE YOURSELF A MANICURE AND YOU’LL NEVER NEED THE SALON AGAIN

PHOTO VIA DATA.WHICOM

Even if you prefer artificial nails, you can learn to do the technique yourself right at home. I prefer short, natural nails so I took the time to learn how to give myself a good manicure. I save a ton of cash and I can change things up whenever the mood strikes. Once you learn to do your own mani and pedi, you’ll wonder why you ever spent so muchMONEY paying someone else to do it for you.

3. YOUR HAIR WILL THANK YOU FOR A REGULAR HOT OIL TREATMENT

PHOTO VIA DATA.WHICOM

You could have your stylist do a hot oil treatment for your hair. Or, you could do it yourself so that you can read a magazine or catch up on Netflix while you wait for it to work. You can buy great hot oil treatments at the drugstore and you simply apply them right at home. It’s so easy and you never need toPAYanyone to do it for you ever again!

4. YOU’LL LOVE WHAT A HOME FACIAL CAN DO FOR YOU

PHOTO VIA DATA.WHICOM

I love going to the salon and getting a facial, but my checkbook doesn’t. That’s why learning to do it myself was something I was really excited to do. You’ll follow the same steps, including a scrub, clearing pores and moisturizing. Doing it yourself is super satisfying.

5. WHITEN YOUR OWN TEETH – WHO NEEDS THE DENTIST?

PHOTO VIA DATA.WHICOM

Ok, you must still get your teeth cleaned every six months, but you don’t have to shell out for professional whitening treatments. There are so many easy and effective options that allow you to do the treatment yourself at home. It’s faster and you’ll have someMONEY left over.

Which of these treatments can you do yourself? Will you be trying any of the others? What other treatments would you add to the list?

As against popular belief that minimalism, which is also another form of reductionism, strips elements down to its barest leaving them stated & boring, we thought to incorporate a bit of glamor, inject colors and create designs that expose the clichéd concept of minimalism as an ambiguous one. One which is a canvass for all other things to come into being.“

The makeup world has received a dash of inspiration thanks to the fashion shows, runway and Cara Delevingne. One thing you should know when it comes to beauty trends is that the world is your shell and that means you can live in it, therefore there is no harm in trying out the new makeup trends that celebrities and models are sporting.

Tips On How To Get This Soft Glow Look

This looks comprises of soft application of eye-shadow, lip stick blush etch to give off a chill, soft look.

Eye-shadow application can either appear soft, though, elegant or downright weird, but for bold eyes you need a bold color that appears sort. To apply eye-shadow make sure your skin is clean, then you can use a primer, powder, concealer or foundation to create a blank canvas and then sweep he shadow across your lids buffing out the color until its almost transparent then add another layered buff again, do this until you have achieved a soft layered look.

For lip color go with well defined but cool lipstick and add lip balm for the finishing touch same goes for blush application.

Solange Knowles is many things – DJ, mom, wife, sister to Beyoncé, natural hair poster girl, fashionista, creative director and the list goes on. But one more title I may just give her is fashion & beauty risk taker.

At Day 2 of the FYF Fest 2015 which took place in Los Angeles, she attended and rocked the stage in fiery red ensemble, complete with bold red eyeshadow. Joining a list of women such as Jennifer Lopez and Cara Delevingne, who have also rocked this out-there trend, Solange showed us once again why she never colours within the lines. (or eye crease in this case)

She paired the statement eye colur with nothing but her matched outfit and let her enviously long natural hair fall to her shoulders…But now that we’re done day dreaming about her mane, back to her look.

This is not the star’s first foray into bold eyeshadow. In July this year she took a walk on the wild side with a shiny metallic orange shadow that gave her face a serious glow, paired with a nude top and a pleated bronze skirt, at the Kiehl’s Pioneers By Nature Party. It looks like she definitely likes to take risks.

Would I be rocking this look on the streets of Lagos – no. I think it’s best left for the stage or fashion magazine. But I do love to make an entrance.

What do you think? Yay or nay?
