1. HYGENE

The first thing us girls notice about you guys is how clean you are and your smell. Us, being ladies, hate bad smells, and yellow teeth, sits and pimples, so find this as another major excuse to clean yourself!

2. SENSE OF HUMOR

Girls love to laugh. When a guy makes us laugh, it might as well be a love potion, and if you make us laugh enough, and make us laugh when you are individually together or are texting, then there is no doubt that she will like you.

3. HAIR

The third thing that us girls notice is your hair. We are major perfectionists and find it annoying (blame OCD) when a guy’s hair is off-point.

4. CLOTHING

Another thing we notice is how you dress every day. If you want to catch her attention, try not to wear the same thing over and over again. It gets pretty annoying and gross. Also, one other thing about clothing we notice is when your t-shirts are just too big for you. When at the store, try on the clothing and make sure that that shirt is at most three inches past the binding of your jeans.

5. EYES

We looooove eyes. Never look away from a girl while talking. If you want her to keep listening, look into her eyes and smile while talking, making her pay attention and will let her know you’re interested.

Fitness and raw food diet expert Kristina shows us how to get a beautifully flat stomach in just five easy steps.

Top tip number one is to stay hydrated, drinking as much water or raw fruit or vegetable juice as possible. Kristina shares her recipe for vitamin-infused lemonade to get you started. Delicious and fresh, the citrus in the water flushes toxins out of your system, keeping your bowels moving and helping to keep your stomach flat.

Tip number two is to eat as many fully raw fruit and vegetables as you can every day. Hydration from food is as important as water. Challenge yourself with possibly one to two fully raw meals a day.

Tip number three is to eliminate all meat and dairy from your diet. Raw fruits and vegetables are filled with fibre that keeps your system moving. Dairy and meat contain bacteria and hormones, they stay stagnant in your stomach and can cause weight fluctuation.

Tip number four is to do ten minutes of easy ab exercises every day. Just ten minutes can build muscle, burn fat and give you a flat toned tummy. Watch Kristina demonstrate squats, bicycle crunches, planks and jump roping.

Tip number five is to stop eating three hours before you go to bed. Eating fully raw is also called the daylight diet, with the idea that you only eat when there is light in the sky. Eating late at night can cause you to binge, plus eating when you’re active means you can burn up the energy you are consuming.

Just as the shape of a mustache can drastically change the appearance of a man’s face, the shape of the eyebrows affects the appearance of the eyes. In many ways, the overall appearance of the eye area is defined by the arch, length and thickness of the eyebrow. A lot of Nigerian ladies are in the trend of having perfectly shaped eyebrows which enhances their beauty. LEADERSHIP Weekend’s CHALYA DUL spoke to a beautician, Ann Enebe, who gave tips and views on how to achieve a perfectly shaped eyebrow.

Ann says in order to achieve a perfectly shaped eyebrow the shape of the eyebrow is correct when the beginning of the brow is aligned with the center of the nostril and the arch falls over the back third of the eye. She went further to give us some essential tips to a perfectly shaped eyebrow.

Use an eyebrow pencil or powder that matches the colour of your own eyebrows. Exception: If you have pale or blonde eyebrows, you’ll need to use a colour that’s one or two shades deeper than your natural brow colour—this prevents blonde brows from looking washed out, especially when other eye makeup is worn.

Brush the brow up with a brow comb or toothbrush.

Whether you are using a pencil or powder, follow the basic shape of the existing brow

Apply the colour by filling in the shape of the brow between the hairs where needed.

As much as possible, work only with the hair that is there. The idea is to shade rather than draw on eyebrows.

Fill in only at the front or underneath the brow, or through the brow itself.

Do not place your brow colour, whether it is pencil or powder, more than one-quarter inch away from where the natural hair growth stops. This would accentuate the fact that there is no brow there in the first place.

Do not forget that eyebrow colour should look shaded and soft, not like a straight, hard line.

When applying brow gel, brush the color through the brow in much the same fashion as you apply mascara to the eyelashes. Brush the wand through your brows, being careful not to get the product on the skin and not to leave the brows standing straight up. It will probably take you a few applications to get the hang of it.

Talking to some ladies, they gave reasons they enjoy a perfectly shaped eyebrow.

Daharatu said: “when I have my eyebrow shaped, it gives me a completely different and classy look. It makes me look very different from my everyday look. While Ama said it makes a huge difference to my look; each time I want to look really pretty and fly I ensure I have a perfectly carved eyebrow.”

In Nneka’s view, ”sometimes I get tired of carving and shaping my eyebrow, but then when I decide to let it grow without carving, it gets really bushy. So most times, I carve my eyebrow to make them look organised and neat and it keeps me looking pretty too.”

Some optometrists have advised women against indiscriminate use of artificial eyelashes during the festive period to avoid damage to the cornea.

The optometrists, in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, also advised women to patronize experts, if they must wear the lashes.

NAN reports that the use of eye lashes has taken root in the Nigerian fashion scene, especially during festive periods.

A Consultant Optometrist, Eniola Ajayi, said: “If one must wear eye lashes, you have to follow the laid down procedures as approved by professional anesthesiologists”.

Ajayi said that the laceration of the cornea could cause a scar and in turn impair vision.

“The issues lie with the technical fixing of the lashes, which can affect the front cover of the eye, the cornea.

“It is a transparent tissue and if anything causes it to lacerate, that is, cut or bruise, and it fails to heal well, it will cause a scar which will affect vision in terms of clarity.

“If in the process of fixing the lashes, proper hygienic measures are not taken, infections can occur.

“The physical attributes of the lash, if not properly fixed, that is, if it is not correctly turned up, can begin to abrade the eye causing an erosion of the cornea over time,” Ajayi said.

Another consultant optometrist, Susu Enang, expressed concern over the use of super glue to stick the lashes.

“Although, I don’t have the authority to say people should not use these artificial lashes, I advocate sticking it with the natural ones.

“People come to my clinic with complaints associated with injuries sustained from the use of artificial lashes.

“I have a patient whose cornea suffered burns when super glue accidentally got into her eye.

“When these artificial lashes are fixed by a non professional, it can turn inward and abrade the cornea.

“Also, when glue is applied on the eye lid margin, it blocks the sebaceous glands that secrete oil to moisturise the eye.

“It consequently denies the eye of the antibiotic properties it provides, resulting in infection of the eyelid and the sebaceous glands itself.

“Interestingly, artificial lashes create room for infections because people who wear these lashes do not wash their eyes well, and also when the lashes fall out, dust and bacteria will accumulate around the eyes,” Enang said.

Speaking on the issue, Sandra Aigbe, said that glue contains chemicals like formaldehyde, which could have adverse effect on the eyes.

“Glue can cause allergic reactions causing stinging, burning, swelling and rashes.

“The use of super glue is just wrong, It can also result in temporary and permanent loss of natural lashes.”

She further advised women to be wary of using artificial lashes if there was any form of discomfort in the eye.

“Avoid fixing lashes if you have any eye infection or disease,” she said.

You might be surprised to find out that there are dangerous beauty practices that you may not know about. You aren’t alone. I was in the same boat, but I got to thinking about what I could be doing differently to keep my looks the way I want them without having to give up my entire routine. It turns out that there are some dangerous beauty practices that you should give up entirely. Fortunately, it’s not as hard as it sounds. Check these out and then get ready for your best routine yet.

1. Questionable Manicures and Pedicures

Who doesn’t love to be pampered by a salon treatment? I know I do! However, when you go in for your mani/pedi, it’s imperative to be sure you see the technicians following clean and sanitary safety steps. Otherwise, you set yourself up for possibly one of the most serious of the dangerous beauty practices on this list. Unclean tools and tubs can spread bacteria and germs that can lead to #skin infections and even worse, so if you’re ever in doubt, find a different salon.

2. Ear Candles

These are dangerous enough if you have them done professionally, but even more so if you do them on your own at home. There seems to be a rising obsession with the amount of ear wax a person has. Some wax is normal and is actually healthy for your ears because it works to protect them from foreign objects. However, the U.S Food and Drug Administration strongly cautions you against using them because ear candles, despite their purported #benefits of removing toxins and excess wax, can actually lead to a blockage, burns and even a ruptured eardrum.

3. Waist Training

It might sound innocent enough. We all want slim and trim waistlines, right? This is a beauty trend that you should definitely stay away from though. The device is like a corset and is supposed to permanently decrease your waist size if you wear it often enough. However, the long term consequences are dire. At the least, the device is very uncomfortable, but it can also leave you with rib damage and can make it hard to breathe. A healthy diet and plenty of #exercise is a way better method for slimming your waist.

4. Cleansing

Many women do a cleanse as a way to boost #skin health, beauty and internal health. However, many health experts caution against this practice, no matter how beautiful it makes you #look and feel. A cleanse once in a while probably won’t cause too much harm, but doing one too often can lead to electrolyte imbalances, renal failure and even death. Your #body is fully equipped to detox itself so let it do its work.

5. Gel Nails

Before I had kids and a boatload of obligations, I used to head to the salon for fake nails every couple of weeks. That was before the time of the new innovative gel manicures. This specific type of manicure is supposed to last longer. While that’s great news for #women everywhere, there is the possibility that your salon is using a counterfeit gel, which poses major health risks. At the same #time, you set the gel by exposing your nails to UVA rays, which increases the risk of skin cancer to your nails and fingers.

6. Bikini Wax

The old bikini wax is a treatment that #women have been having done for generations. It’s great for a clean, hair-free #look down below, but the newer Brazilian wax may be a problem though. You are always at risk of a burn, which would be devastatingly uncomfortable in such a sensitive area. In addition, when the hair is ripped out, all that #skin is actually injured and you are at risk of a bacterial or viral infection until it heals. If you do decide on this treatment, be sure you find a licensed and reputable technician.

Did you know beauty could be so dangerous? Me either! But these tips will definitely help me stay safe going forward. Do you have any other practices to add to my list?

Beauty tips for college students are always helpful. College students have limited time and sometimes a limited budget. These beauty tips for college students can help with both of those. It’s always good to find beauty tips that help you be your best.

1. Find a Five Minute Face

One of the best beauty tips for college students is to find a five minute #face that works for you. It’s good for everyone to have a five minute face but #college students especially need one. You’re busy with your classes and studying. Spending a long time on your makeup is probably something you don’t always have #time for. Most five minutes faces include #concealer, mascara and a lip product.

2. Invest in a Good Concealer

Concealer is going to be a very good friend to you during your #college years. It’s wonderful at covering up #dark circles from sleepless nights, something most college students frequently have. Concealer is a beauty product that can help you #look less like a zombie when you’re sleep deprived. If you’re going to splurge on any #makeup product, this is probably the one to do that with. A good #concealer is worth the price.

3. Find Products That do Double Duty

When you’re on a budget, it’s nice when you can find a beauty product to do double duty. This is where creativity comes in. One example is to use baby oil as an eye #makeup remover as well as to give your legs a hint of shine. Another would be to use conditioner to shave your #legs with, too. There are many beauty products that you can use for more than one purpose.

4. Moisturizer with SPF is Key

Moisturizer is important for everyone. It keeps your #skin in good condition and gives your foundation a smooth surface to be applied to. It can also offer you protection from the sun if you purchase a moisturizer with SPF. #College students are outdoors quite a bit with walking back and forth between their classes and dorms. A moisturizer with SPF will offer you protection during those walks.

5. Think Space Saving Tools and Products

Dorms are not the most spacious accommodations. It’s good to think about #things you can do to give you more space when you live in a dorm. There are several options in space saving beauty tools and products. You might consider a smaller hair dryer or smaller version of your #hair styling tools. Mini bottles of nail polish and other mini beauty products can be helpful, too.

6. Be Careful What You Share

It’s wonderful when you can share beauty tools and makeup with your roommates. For many #things, this is fine. But there’re some beauty products you should use caution in sharing. Eye #makeup and lip products are two things it’s best not to share. It’s easier to share germs when it comes to those two types of products.

I hope that you’ve found some of these tips helpful. What other beauty tips have helped you as a #college student? You’re welcome to share.

Lack of sleep is something is we all battle at some time or another. The occasional bad few nights are probably nothing to worry about, but if you regularly suffer from lack of sleep, it’s time to make some changes. That’s because not getting enough shut eye can really mess with you. Not only can it make you cranky, destabilize your immune system and cause you to overeat, but it can also really mess with your looks. I know – not good, right? Check out these ways that not getting enough sleep can interfere with your beauty and I bet you’ll be rushing to bed in no #time.

1. Reduced Blood Flow

When you suffer from a lack of sleep, it means your arteries aren’t as healthy and functional as they should be. That means your risk of heart disease goes up, but it also means your skin pays the price. Without adequate blood flow to your #skin, it will start looking less than healthy – that means dry and dull. Fortunately, getting some extra hours in #bed can really help.

2. Wrinkles

No #girl wants to find wrinkles on her face, right? I know I don’t! Unfortunately, skimping on your sleep can promote their development. That’s because tired skin isn’t healthy #skin. Over #time, the lack of blood flow mentioned above can lead to sagging and wrinkling. In addition, being tired can make you more prone to squinting and tensing up your #face, both of which also contribute to wrinkles.

3. Aging

Wrinkles aren’t the only #skin issue that can age you. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body pumps out the stress hormone, cortisol, which can lead to sagging and #dark circles. Not only do these things age you, but over #time, cortisol can break down your collagen, leaving you looking older than you really are.

4. Slows Human Growth Hormone Production

Lack of sleep means your #body slows down its production of human growth hormone. That might not sound like such a big deal since you’re an adult now, but it turns out that it still plays a role in your beauty, no matter your age. Human growth hormone contributes to #skin repair and maintenance. This happens when you sleep, so not hitting the hay early enough can interfere with the process.

5. Skin Conditions Flare

I think that all of us with a chronic skin condition, such as eczema, can say that there’s nothing #beautiful about it. It hurts and looks gross, right? Well, it turns out that lack of sleep can trigger a flare up of certain #skin conditions. So if you have one, it’s best to monitor your sleep habits so you can keep symptoms at bay.

Some women just love to have long nails but long fingernails usually mean more effort with maintenance, with the right care ladies can grow and maintain strong, healthy nails up to the length desired.

A host of ladies prefer putting on artificial nails to the natural but when kept clean such nails can look beautiful and charming.
Here are a few tips in maintaining long nails.
1. Find time to clean off existing polish using nail polish remover and a cotton ball, take off any nail polish that’s on your nails. Even if you don’t have any nail polish on, still wipe over them to clean off any dirt and oil.
2. Get a sponge, same as you would use to bath and scrub all over your nails. Make sure you are thorough on the tips of your nails. If you want to use something other than warm water to scrub your nails, try using a mix of hand lotion and one pump of moisturizing dish soap. Before doing this, rub them with warm water to soften them.
3. If your nails are brittle or chipping, clip them just a tiny bit or clip them so they are all one length. File your fingernails in whatever shape you like them, this makes them beautiful and healthier.
4. Rub some cuticle cream onto your nails and let it set for a minute. By doing this it brings out all other dirt from your nails and as well softens your hand.
5. Paint your nails with something that helps encourage nail growth. This will protect your nails from any damage and help them to grow long and strong.
6. One of the best aspects of having long nails is showing them with beautiful colours. If you don’t like bright colours, you could use toned down colours.
