Meet Momppy Mpoppy New South African Doll With Exquisite Fashion Sense
More and more African dolls are breaking into the market and finding success; however the newest doll, Momppy Mpoppy, has one thing that sets her apart from many other African dolls: her individually styled fashion.
Most African dolls are draped in the beautiful ethnic patterns of the motherland, but not Mpoppy. She represents the new age African girl who finds freedom in style. Mpoppy’s designer, Maite Makgoba, said that she created the doll after realizing traditional dolls were no longer appealing to children.
“They were frumpy and unattractive, some in traditional attire. That is not the reality of today,” said the 26-year-old entrepreneur who is also a South African Airforce Captain from Soweto.
Makgoba uses her two-room workspace in Johannesburg to outfit each doll in the latest fashion designed, sewn and pressed by hand. From ballerina skirts and jumpsuits to bright heels Mpoppy is styled to perfection.
